Something ridiculous I read on Citysearch

As previously mentioned, one of the reasons I started this blog/site was the and reviews I was reading on other websites.

One bride, upon visiting a store was told not to order her dress from the manufacturer shorter and she was also upset that the dress was going to have to be altered.

Some of this information may seem silly, but clearly- if this one bride is distraught over the situation- how many others are?

A few things:
1. Bridal gowns are not custom made when you're purchasing a label made by a manufacturer. They have a size chart that they use (this differs from standard clothing sizes- don't be surprised if you go up 2-4 sizes from what you normally wear) and all size 12's are cut at the measurements they have deemed a size 12.

I have watched my fair share of Clinton Kelly and Stacy London on What Not To Wear and if anyone else has- you may notice a theme in their show. They are constantly telling women that they need to tailor their clothing to fit them. This is no different in wedding gowns- unless you have yours custom made- and even then you will have to go to a few fittings to ensure the fit is correct.

2. If you were to order your dress shorter from the manufacturer- it may not be accurate.

Why? Because once you have your correct undergarments, a slip - if you opt to go with one, and most importantly or impactful- SHOES the hemline on the dress will change with your POSTURE. If you order your dress shorter from the manufacturer- if it's one that allows it- I would NOT DO IT! There are too many variables that can affect the look of the dress.

Can you imagine- you thought you ordered it just right so it would just hit the floor- but when you try it on- the hem is uneven or worse- T-length when you want floor-length!

AVOID AVOID AVOID shortening during the ordering process.

Think of it this way: you can either pay up front and not know what kind of results you are getting, or you can pay the person doing the alterations who you can pow-wow with and ensure that you're getting exactly what you're paying for.

I opt for the later.

For the tall girls out there- you may have to opt for extra length- which just like shortening, requires an extra fee. Unfortunately in this case, there's really no way around that one.
